Poor Man's Productions, based outside Toronto, is a leading producer of fictional and non-fictional films in short and feature formats.
Founded in September 2003, Poor Man's is fully owned and operated in Canada by Richie Mehta and Steven Bray.
Our mission is to support and promote high quality, culturally diverse films which speak to a global audience, transcending all borders. Ultimately, our goal is to produce strong, creative, story-driven films.
With collective roots in the production of feasible, high quality documentaries and dramas, Steven Bray and Richie Mehta teamed up in 2003. Their first production, the science fiction short SYSTEM OF UNITS, received much success at international film festivals such as Palm Springs, Reelworld, American Cinematheque and the United Nations WYA Festival in New York City (where it was awarded Most Beautiful Film). This was followed by the shorts THE ANSWER, ALL ROADS LEAD TO HERE and film festival favourite AMAL. The latter premiered at the Telluride Film Festival and has since screened at over 25 festivals worldwide - including Palm Springs, Worldwide Short Film Festival, Montreal, Atlantic, LA South Asian (Winner - Best Short Film), Reelworld (Winner - Best Canadian Short) and Tokyo (Winner - Best Asian Short).
Steven Bray is a current standing member of the Canadian Film and Television Producer's Association (CFTPA) and a graduate of Sheridan College's Media Arts program. Richie Mehta studied Film at the University of Toronto before gaining his post-graduate diploma in Sheridan College's Advanced Film and Television program.
We are currently in development on the feature film version of AMAL; slated for production in 2006.
